Why even the worst cold winters will not persuade the climate cult

This last October, my wife and I were able join a bike tour in the beautiful Provence region of southern France. Besides seeing the beauty of the region, we were challenged in climbing the hilly terrain on our daily rides. The most challenging was Mont Ventoux, which I found was kind of a bucket list accomplishment for avid cyclists. It’s over 5700 feet (1910 meters) tall and required almost three hours of continuous climbing. It’s actually on the Tour de France at times, and so those who are able to accomplish the climb usually try to grab some bragging rights (I bought a jersey). The photo of me above is where everyone poses to capture the event. As I was lined up for my turn, I offered to take the picture for a couple from Switzerland ahead of me. When he asked me where I was from I told him ‘Texas.” “So, you guys must love all the oil you have. That’s why it’s so hot.” When I tried to explain to him I didn’t think the science supported that, it was clear he didn’t want to have a conversation. What I wished I would have said was, “So why are you riding a carbon frame bike and wearing a polyester jersey and shorts?” People who criticize the use of oil usually have no clue how many products they use and enjoy that are derivatives of petroleum. So yes, I do love all the oil we have (except I don’t have any personally).

Not since the Middle Ages have scientists had such a bad reputation.

We’re in an amazing time right now, when those who quickly try to claim ‘scientific consensus’ on controversial positions the public suspects are wrong are rapidly being proven wrong and losing credibility. Not since the Middle Ages have scientists had such a bad reputation. Think Covid, transgender transitions for teens, and yes, global warming. It becomes apparent that money, status, and even power surface as motives for their ‘scientific’ positions rather than impartial data. On global warming, when was the last time someone cited the actual temperature rise in the last 40 years due to all this CO2 being released? Powerline reports the actual data,

The average temperature of Earth’s atmosphere has warmed just over four tenths of a degree Celsius (almost three fourths of a degree Fahrenheit) during the past 37 years, with the greatest warming over the Arctic Ocean and Australia, said Dr. John Christy, director of the Earth System Science Center at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2015/12/whats-really-going-on-with-the-earths-climate.php

Four tenths of a degree Celsius! The report goes on to state,

If that trend was to continue for another 63 years, the composite warming for the globe would be 1.1 C (about 2 degrees Fahrenheit) for the century…

1.1 degrees C usually happens in the course of a day. Our lives are not changed by this. You will see higher temperatures than this cited using surface readings, which can be contaminated by ‘urban heat islands’, or other heat sources. Several recent articles have documented the distortion of data coming from these sources. The most reliable readings are atmospheric, as stated in the article above.

As I write this, our part of Texas, as is much of the country, is in a cold snap. My weather app tells me the temperature is around -30 of normal for this time of year. When the issue of record cold winters is brought up to the climate alarmists, we’re told global warming is responsible for that. ‘Experts’ tell us with a straight face that global warming is disrupting something called the ‘polar vortex’ by altering the wind stream over the arctic circle. Honest scientists know this is not true, as this phenomenon has been happening since the 1800s, long before the deadly ‘carbon emissions’, as this article substantiates.

So if the data is increasingly contradicting the global warming alarmists, why don’t they change their story?!

To start with, the story began around 40 years ago. This is an abbreviated version, and I elaborate more in the chapter on science in my book Modern Paganism. This theory of global warming becoming a threat to us was based on a number of computer based models to substantiate this theory, beginning in the late 1970s. Since then, the models have proven to be wildly overstated, as the chart below illustrates:

Even though there is a slight temperature rise over time, there is also a flat line pause for 20 years beginning at around 2004. That doesn’t make sense if carbon emissions are the cause, as they were rapidly increasing during this time. Those of us who follow this issue know that there is nothing even close to a ‘scientific consensus’ on this. Usually, dissenting scientific voices are either silenced or threatened, but occasionally their voices get out, such as here. In another link, called The Petition Project, you see there are over 31,000 scientist who signed a petition which states,

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

In yet another link, you will see over 1000 scientists dissenting, and showing disgust at the corruption of the IPCC, the UN organization which is supposedly the official organization driving this narrative. The Heartland Institute has written an excellent exposure of the problems with the IPCC here.

Why we know it’s a cult

Even if we did everything the Green Energy Cult leaders want us to do it would have almost no effect on the earth’s temperature at the end of the century, while causing devastating harm (think regular power outages) to our quality of life, and even life expectancy in developing countries. If ‘clean’ energy was the goal, nuclear energy would be promoted, instead of the expensive and unreliable wind and solar. Some of the activists are against economic progress, or capitalism in general. But others are motivated by what can only be characterized as religious zeal. That’s the main point in my book – the moral and spiritual vacuum present in many modern influencers forces them to find some sort of moral validation and the global warming ‘cause’ fits that need. That’s why they’re not willing to discuss or debate. Just like most people know a cult when they see it, most people I talk to don’t really believe the bogus ‘science’ being sold to us.

Why is a former pastor talking about global warming?

Basically, I care about people. It’s what I’ve done my whole life. I have learned that lies with ulterior motives really do hurt people. Truth sets people free and allows them to live fuller lives. There are many noble people fighting against this pernicious lie today, for the same reason, many at personal sacrifice. I hope you join us. If you see a recently indoctrinated young person who is depressed because the world is going to end if we don’t quit using oil, share this article. Ask them for the facts, including the temperature rise. Tell them about the .4 degree rise (which is nothing). Show them the links. Tell them to quit voting for politicians who try to virtue signal off of other people’s suffering while they fly their private jets. Tell them to worship God instead of His creation, and they will be able to enjoy both.

You can learn the fast facts at places like Climate at a Glance. Climate Realism is another easy to read site. I’ve got about a hundred more if you’re interested and you can get as nerdy as you want. Seriously, hit me up on the comments below if you have questions and I’ll try to respond. Blessings.
